Labour to hold annual think-thank in Abbey Hotel Roscommon
Wednesday, 21 July 2010
THE Parliamentary Labour Party have chosen Roscommon to host their special two day think-thank to prepare for the autumn Dáil session.
Choosing Roscommon as the venue to host the meeting is evidence of Labour's hopes to boost support within the county and the Western region ahead of the general election in 2012.
Party leader Eamon Gilmore will be joined by party colleagues in the Abbey Hotel over Wednesday and Thursday the 15th and 16th of September. The meeting will open in the early afternoon on Wednesday and conclude at lunchtime on Thursday.
Labour have one party member on Roscommon county council, Cllr John Kelly, who recently lost out on the county mayorship to Cllr Luke 'Ming' Flanagan.
Labour are hoping to boost much needed party support in rural areas and are wooing other Independent councillors in the Connacht region.
Though approached by the party in the recent past Cllr Flanagan is adamant that he will be running as an Independent in the next election. "They no doubt have a good candidate in John Kelly but no I will not be joining Labour and will be running as an Independent in the next election."
