Day services to be saved at Plunkett Nursing Home

Wednesday, 14 July 2010

DAY Care services at Plunkett Nursing Home in Boyle will be "sorted" and "very soon" according to HSE West Director of Operations, John Hennessey.
Addressing a special meeting between public representatives and HSE officials last week a delegation of Boyle town councillors were told that a redeployment of staff would ensure that day care services will resume at the home. Former mayor Jan Flanagan who spoke at the meeting said she is optimistic that services will resume and has faith in Mr Hennessey's promise.
"He said day care is an important part of the whole service a patient receives he told us it will be sorted and the facility will return very soon. On Tuesday last we were told there was no budget but Mr Hennessey said he would look after it. We felt very positive leaving the meeting."
The services which facilitated approximately 50 people in Boyle have been closed for four months now. The news follows a statement from Minister for Older People, Aine Brady, who told councillors last Tuesday that Mr Hennessey has to reduce staff in the region by 300 this year and that if this position is re-instated cuts will have to be made somewhere else. However it seems likely that day care services at the home will be reinstated in the immediate future.
