CALLING all budding entrepreuners and enthusiasts to win a chance of a lifetime and unleash their skills and ideas on an unsuspecting public. If you have a unique concept, product, service or talent and need help to get it developed then a place in Gilligan's Harvest Apprentice competition is for you.
It's a unique opportunity allowing people to showcase their talents or products before a panel of five judges in the hope of winning €2,000 worth of free advertising with Shannonside Radio and acquiring essential expertise to get their business off the ground.
In celebration of their first anniversary Gilligan's Meats want to provide a chance for one person who has a vision and passion to see their talents and ideas materialise into a profit-making business. From organising a summer camp to designing a website, from making jam to performing songs if you have had any concepts about going into business or showcasing your talents then this competition is open to you. Selected finalists will exhibit their wares at Gilligan's Harvest festival before a panel of five judges, hundreds of people and Shannonside radio. The competition is open to people of all ages and anyone with a unique concept that they would like to see come to fruition. €2,000 worth of free advertising with Shannonside Northern Sound opens up their business to a target audience of thousands. Finalists will showcase between 12pm-4pm on the grounds of Gilligan's Farm Shop meeting and greeting members of the public and of course the judges.The winner of the Harvest apprentice competition will be announced during the Harvest Festival which will take place on August 7 between 12 and 4pm.
The Harvest Festival is open for all members of the public to attend as there will be a host of events on the day for young and old.
Have you ever wondered about the farm to fork concept that Gilligan's models its farming on? As all of Gilligan's livestock are reared on their farm the Harvest festival will cover everything you ever wondered about the farm to fork process.
A demonstration will be given by Farm manager, Tim Fox and cattle selector, Frank Gibbons on how to grade cattle for the butcher and to be able to identify the quality aspects needed and how this process is done. As everyone knows 80% of Gilligan's feed is grown on site for the feeding of animals and their diet is overseen by a special dietician.
Padraig and Alan Gilligan will discuss the factors and processes involved in preparing the land for the growing of crops and the steps involved to ensure maximum profitability.
Vinnie and Paul (AKA Picasso and Van Gogh) will demonstrate the breaking down of a carcass and explain what cuts of beef come from which parts of the animal. James McGeough, supplier of Black pudding, will demonstrate the making of pudding and sausages and will be asking for volunteers on the day to lend a hand. Michael Cull will also be on hand to break down the carcass of a pig and cookery tips and advice will be giving by resident chef Maggie Heylin.
Not forgetting our future entrepreneurs there will be a fancy-dress barn dance for all children present to enjoy along with face painting and a prize for the best dressed Cowboy and Cowgirl, YEE HAA!
The Harvest Festival on August 7 between 12-4pm is free and open to everyone, more events will be announced in the coming weeks.
